studied and performed the styles of Classical, Flamenco and Impressionistic, as
well as, Folk, Ethnic and Progressive guitar.
- Rick
Hanapi - Hawaiian Guitar - Watching Rick
Hanapi perform solo with his 12-string guitar, one sees a handsome Hawaiian man
who engages his audience with his own style of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian
music. What is not readily apparent is the depth and strength of character that
brought Rick to this time and place on Kaua'i.
- Holo
Mai Pele - Halau o Kekuhi - Through mele oli (chant) and mele hula
(dance), this epic poem of Pele, the Fire Goddess and maker of land, and Hi'iaka
recounts the travels of Pele and her family, who ultimately settle on the island
of Hawai'i. The 60 member Halau o Kekuhi has toured this critically acclaimed
show to sold-out audiences throughout Hawai'i. Plans are underway for possible
tours to the mainland, Europe, and other Polynesian islands.
- LISA
LEE - Lisa Lee performs with her Autoharp. Her voice is a mixture
of power and tenderness which, combined with her three octave range, is extremely
rare. Her unique originals combine the earthiness of folk, the substance of new
age, and the empathy of hard-earned wisdom.
- Sandra
Reaves - SANDRA REAVES packs the theatre with a remarkable recounting
of the vocal styles and personalities of six immortal legends -- Billie Holiday,
Bessie Smith, Dinah Washington, Ma Rainey, Ethel Waters and Mahalia Jackson.
- Yoboso - "YOBOSO" - "the soulful one," is a
perfect definition for the brand of Latin jazz performed by this acclaimed quartet.
Yoboso recently won the nationwide Jazz Discovery competition sponsored by the
Black Entertainment Network's Jazz Central program.
