Review excerpts

NOVOYE RUSSKOYE SLOVO “… Mr. Kalinovsky proved himself as a musician possessing a full brilliant sound, powerful captivating rhythm and sweeping virtuosity. Here everything was grandiose and majestic, with total technical control, but absolutely no exaggerations or emotional excesses, with not a slightest concession for “contact” with the audience. Everywhere, the musician remained a true lyricist, both surrendering himself to his emotions and keeping them under control at the same time.”

PRESENCIA “The performance by Grigory Kalinovsky and Freddy Terrazas (conductor) of the Brahms Concerto was delightful. Grigory Kalinovsky is, without a doubt, a violinist of substance, and honors his teacher, Pinchas Zukerman, with whom he has worked at the Manhattan School of Music. Besides his unquestionable musicality, his mastery of technique and control of the bow, he shows a deep understanding of the piece. Mr. Kalinovsky is the kind of musician who knows how to communicate his emotions to his colleagues and, of course, to the audience.”

LA RAZON “Grigory Kalinovsky ... has reaffirmed his standards of artistic excellence with this brilliant performance (of the Brahms Concerto). The purity of his tone was evident in the Adagio, and his intense but controlled vibrato shines in the most expressive moments.” “The soloist was vigorous and convincing, and although this is a difficult concerto, its execution seemed effortless for him. Certainly this is a young violinist who will reach the top of a brilliant artistic career. “

HOY “Grigory Kalinovsky ... stood out as a soloist in Wieniawski’s Second Violin Concerto in which he displayed great technical command, richness and perfection of bow strokes, including outstanding ascending staccato. His resolution and confidence in the difficult passages as well as in his expression, were evident in his vibrato and in the sound itself which he produced from his instrument.”
